This has bugging me the last week:

1. Read the following passage. Identify at least one thing that can be classified as a solid, a
liquid, a gas, a homogeneous mixture, a heterogeneous mixture, a physical property, a
physical change, a chemical change, a pure substance, an element, a compound, kinetic
energy, and potential energy. You cannot repeat any of your answers. For example, if the
passage mentioned carbon dioxide, you cannot list it for both a gas and a pure substance.

Passage: One day in California, a family decided to go to the amusement park. It was a
beautiful day and the air was clear with no smog in site. When the family arrived, the
children ran to the gate and held onto the iron bars gleaming inside. They were so excited.
Their parents got the blue tickets, the ticket-take tore their tickets and the family headed
inside. Once inside, they headed straight for the water ride, where the youngest child got
sopping wet. After a few rides, the children were hungry, so they stopped to eat hamburgers
and Slushies. The oldest boy did not like Slushies, so they got him a sports drink. They stayed
at the park until the sun went down. All of a sudden, they heard an explosion and saw
fireworks in the sky. After the fireworks, the family headed home since the children were
tired. What a wonderful family outing.

This is what I have:

A pure substance is an element or a compound, that consists of only one component. Read it again and again until you see it, because i see it clearly.

Iron is an element so it is a pure substance. A bit tricky, but think about it :]

I can be missing something, but as you can't repeat answers I don't see a way of answering all three.

I never said to write Iron next to anything, I'm telling you Iron is an element and also a pure substance. It's true though, tell that to whoever asked these problems.
