Water separation from DMSO
« on: April 23, 2009, 12:29:01 AM »
I tried to remove water from DMSO.
I want to use sulfuric acid this time. As far as I know, this acid is a good drying agent.
I am afraid that this can react with DMSO or create another impurity from it.
If anyone has any idea, please help me.

Thank you so much.

Typically you dry DMSO by distilling over something like calcium hydride - what sort of levels of water can you tolerate in your reaction? Is Perrin and Armaregno of any use? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Purification-Laboratory-Chemicals-W-L-F-Armarego/dp/0750675713/ref=ed_oe_p

if you need the reaction dry, why not run it over molecular sieves?

Thanks,
I did remove water through molecular sieve, but It does not remove D2O in DMSO.
So, I want to remove D2O than H2O in DMSO by drying agent.

I try to use CaH2 this time.
When CaH2 reacts with D2O, which one is evaporated D2, H2?

Thank you so much again,
