Ok so my situation is this : I got a 60 % in Organic 1 , now for Organic 2 , my final grade is going to determine my grade , the test is in 12 days but I have to study for 2 other tests ( 1 is hard, 1 is easy )  my knowledge in organic is not very good , i averaged 65 for the 3 organic 2 tests I took. Now I spoke to my professor today and he said I need to focus on understanding the material. What i have been doing for the past semester is try and memorize everything, which hasnt worked but i couldnt stop believing it possibly could work. Do you think I can learn to understand organic chemistry and get a 70 % at least  on my organic 2 final ? any tips would be helpful

I'm going to be really honest and say no.  You need to know why things happen.  Like you said, memorizing won't work for the majority of the subject matter.  I'm sorry you have to go through this but organic isn't a forgiving subject. 

You can pray for a miracle ... but I don't see good results in your future.

honestly no.

organic is different...its not like other science classes where you must memorize the material to get a good grade in the class. In organic there is so much information and variations and basically and infinite amount of molecules the teacher can throw at you...there is no way you are able to memorize everything.

the main thing...understand the reactions...like why does a certain reagent attack at a certain site. you use the general mechanism and its understanding and use it for everything.

i found this out late...but i still have 2 tests and 1 final to go. hope i do well. i have an a in lab though :-)
