why do ionic MX compounds prefer the rock salt structure to nickel arsenide structure?

This is on a lab report and no where in my chemistry book or in my lab book can i find the answer

I, for one, don't recognize your jargon.  It's been a while since I was in school, but I don't recognize ionic MX as a class of compounds at all.  Presumably, you're asking about crystal structures, because you don't ask explicitly.  I seem to remember very old geology texts using terms like "rock salt structure" but I may be remembering wrong -- can you check your text for terms like "face-centered cubic crystal"?  Terms like that I recognize better.  Your question may simply be too specialized.

In lab, we were doing a lab based on solid state structures, and that is a question in the end in the discussion. Ive never seen the term before, and there is not background info relating to it. I think ill just have to skip the question then.
