okay i am sorry. i am a new member. I can give the reasons why either of the two products. 2-bromopentane or 3-bromopentane can be the major one but i am unable to decide. 2-bromopentane has more hyperconjugative hydrogens when you consider the corresponding carbocation that is formed while the carbocation formed in 3-bromopentane is stabilised by inductive effects. I dont know how to decide which one will be major

2-pentene is not a good example. You can get almost equal amounts of both isomers

thanks. even i was thinking that almost equal amounts will be formed. Yet in the textbook, it is given that 3-bromopentane will be the major product. so thats where i had the doubt.
