Calcium carbide bond

Hello,

It has been a long time since I last studied chemistry, so forgive me for what might be a rather trivial question.

I was checking for some information regarding the gas “Acetylene” and found that is can be produced via the reaction of calcium carbide with water and I have two questions on the subject:

1- How exactly is the calcium-carbon bond in the crystal structure formed (step by step)?

2- Why is acetylene gas only stored after been dissolved in Acetone?
