4-(2-isopropyl-3-methylbutyl)cyclopentane
or
1-cyclopentyl-2-isopropyl-3-methylbutane
I recall that it will be named as a substituted cycloalkane as long as the substituted chain has a greater number of carbons....
Thank you
I didn't get you when you said "4-(2-isopropyl-3-methylbutyl)cyclopentane"....what do you mean "4"..no matter where you attach a substituent on a ring, if it is the only one, you shoud always number it as "1(blah blah blah)....cycloalkane" or you might omit the "1".
And one more thing I
thought you got wrong:
The compound will be named as a substituted cycloalkane as long as the substituted chain has a
LESSER number of carbons....i.e, if the ring has greater or equal number of carbons as the side chain, then the pearent hydrocarbon will be the ring and not the straight chain..
And I think the name of the compound is : 2-isopropyl-3-methylbutylcyclopentane
i might be wrong though....please correct me if i am wrong.
