A volume question
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:09:14 AM »

I pipetted 15.00 ml of acetic acid

then added .35 grams of sodium acetate trihydrate

am i correct that the volume is now 15.35 ml ?

then, i added .75 grams

so now its 16.10 ml ?

thanks again dan

Not necessarily. What is the density of sodium acetate trihydrate?

Or, to put it another way, if you had 1 gram of osmium or of hydrogen (ignore for a minute that that's a gas at STP), and added that to 100 ml of water, would you expect the volume to be 101 ml in both cases?

ok i better look it up thanks

now my second problem is when the hydrate is put in the  acetic acid does it dissociate

ie. NaC2H3O2* 3H20----> na+  + C2H3O2-

Not sure about the behavior of hydrates in acids ?
