Gasification Modeling
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:44:05 AM »
Hi, I am trying to run some basic calculations to set up a go/no go simulation for different configuration on a gasifier.  I am wondering if I can get some help on determining the probability of some of the reactions that occur during coal gasification (is Delta G directly re-latable to comparing the probability of one reaction over another?) so that I can determine a gas composition.  I know this is not the easiest thing, but I am trying to run some simple calculations in excel and if I can determine a probability hierarchy I can set up logic for the calculations.  Also, I have access to MatLab and Aspen, so if you have any suggestions as to where I could get a generic model for these as well it would be much appreciated.  I am finding that the char gassification is fairly straight forward, but the devolitization is a whole other ball game! Any help is welcome!

Hi there.

I work with pyrolysis of nappier grass, which could be considered... similar with gasification. Well, you know that probability calculation for a particular reaction will depend on lots of things, don't you?

Have you ever analysed your system statistically? like... an experimental design in order to know what variables are important etc?

What data do you have?

Gasification is defined as the process of reacting a carbon-rich feedstock (coal, petroleum coke, biomass, waste, etc.) with steam and oxygen to form a synthesis gas containing H2 and CO. It can be viewed globally as extremely rich combustion and usually utilizes solid or liquid feedstocks. Developing an understanding of the physical, chemical and dynamic processes involved in gasification through multiscale simulation will allow us to optimize gasifier design and plant layout, increasing reliability, availability and maintainability of gasification-based energy systems, while decreasing costs.
