Solid, liquid and gas particules.

I've been asked for the "Strength between gas particles. Strength between solid particles and the strength between liquid particles." What do they mean by "strength"?

Does it have to do with attraction -> particles in solids are more attracted to each other, so they stay closer together?

Strength of molecule interactions most likely.

But the question prior to this one asked for the distance between the particles - I don't understand how the distance and strength are different. If the particles are closer, then the strength in stronger, yes?
