Can you download Crystallographic Information Files from the net?

Yes, from the CCDC (Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre). It isn't free, but most universities have a licence to access it.

Failing that, many (recent) papers may have cifs in the electronic supplementary information for them, which you can also download, and then perhaps view with e.g. weblab viewer (I think, been a while since I've had to do this)

Acta crystallographica E is a public domain journal now that contains cif files free.

Requesting a deposited cif file from the CCDC is for free:

http://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/products/csd/request/

The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is not for free.
