ethyl acetoacetate with ethanol reaction
« on: September 13, 2009, 11:11:00 AM »

what's the product of ethyl acetoacetate (EAA) reacting with ethanol with HCl?

Where does the H+ from HCl takes the electrons from the carbonyl on the EAA?
does it takes from both the carbonyls, resulting both in OH and then the -OEt attacks/attaches to the now electrophilic carbon?
