Hey guys I need some help with the following question.
Explain how solubility tests (in water, acetone, hexane and dichloromethane) would form a basis for classification of the following complexes into the given groups A, B and C. Offer explantions as to why there solubilities are different.
Group A: Co(III) and Cr(III) acetylacetonates
Group B: Ce(IV), V(IV), Al(III), Fe(III) and Cu(II) acetylacetonates
Group C: Ni(II), Zn(II), K(I) and Na(I) acetylacetonates
The only reason I can think of is that the acetylacetonates of each group form similar co-ordinate structures however Al will form Al(acac)3 and so will Co(acac)3 and as far as I am aware they will both form a octahedral structure.
Any help would be much appreciated.
