Bond Energies
« on: September 17, 2009, 08:42:53 PM »
What is the enthalpy change of each of the following reactions?
Reaction H (kJ/mol)

Ag2O(s) + H2(g)  -> 2Ag(s) + H2O(l)

Fe2O3(s) + 3CO(g)  -> 2Fe(s) + 3CO2(g)

2Ag1+(aq) + Pb(s)  -> 2Ag(s) + Pb2+(aq)

4NH3(g) + 5O2(g)  -> 4NO(g) + 6H2O(g)

CH3COOH(l) + 2O2(g)  -> 2CO2(g) + 2H2O(l)

Do I have to use the bond energies table to figure these out? How would the first one look like?

Yes, if they have given you one  :)
First one would look like the
sum of all the bonds broken - sum of all the bonds formed

You just add up all the bond enthalpies from both sides and then subtract the 'formed' value from the 'broken' value
