I can't really see cedrol reacting with (MeO)2C=O to form the ether, rather the mixed carbonate or similar, depending on stoichoimetry. What is your desired product?

My desired product is "cedryl methyl ether "
 Thank you!
Any more information to me?~~ ???
As we know ,the traditional methylation reagent is dimethyl sulfate,so i am going to use dimethyl carbonate which is the green reagent as the methylation reagent to form cedryl methyl ether.
So,what's your opinion~?   Thanks again~

Why wouldn't you just deprotonate and alkylate?

Can you show us an arrow-pushing mechanism for this? I'm still not convinced dimethyl *carbonate* will do the job.
