How to isolate the Ca metal when electrolyzing CaCl2 ?
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:03:14 AM »
I tried to electrolyze molten CaCl2 with a welder and a rectifier. It worked and I saw some sparks appearing at the cathode (right in the clip below) which is presumably burning Ca (or Na when it contains some sodium salt). Is there a way to isolate it ?
As a source I used moisture capturing pellets which is (impure) CaCl2.
