I'd like clarification on whether my method for determining whether a reaction is endo/exothermic from the thermochemical equation is correct.
ex. A + B -X kJ
C + D +X kJ
The way I'm doing it right now is reading it from left to right, and seeing the -X kJ. As soon as I see that I put the -X kJ to the right of the equation, and find that the forward reaction is exothermic, so therefore the reverse reaction is endothermic.
So if...
A + B + X kJ
C + D -X KJ
I see + XKJ first, meaning the forward reaction is endothermic, so therefore the reverse is exo.
I already know that the first example is true, so even if I have these memorized, I'd be fine. But is my thought process correct, or is there a better way to look at this?
