Electrolysis & iso-electric alignment

Hi guys,

I studied some chemistry in University, but that was a long time ago at this stage so be gentle :)

Basically, I need some information on electrolysis and iso-electric alignment. Firstly, here's what I think these terms mean:

Electrolysis
From memory, electroysis involes separating the mobile ions within a liquid by applying current between two electrodes immersed in the liquid.
A current flows between the two electrons and the positive ions move to the negative electrode and the negatively charged ions move to the positive electrode.

Iso-electric alignment
This is based on using pH changes induced by electric currents, along with electric fields to drive molecules to align unidirectionally along their iso-electric point 

So my question is the following: What is the best way to increase the speed of the Iso-electric alignment?
1. Increase/decrease the voltage applied
2. Increase/decrease the surface area of the electrodes
3. Increase/decrease the number of electrodes
4. Increase/decrease the distance between the electrodes in the solution
4. Use an external EM field
