order of addition of the ingredients in manufacturing liqueur

In blending process of the manufacturing liqueur, the ingredients are observed due on order of addition. Example: "one of the following orders of addition: (a) put the aromatic spirit first, (b) add the extra alcohol and stir, (c) add the syrup and stir again, (d) add the required quantity of water and stir again, (e) add color and stir again. after blending process, the liqueur is allowed to rest in few days or few months.
Question: Why do we have to observe order of addition?
              how many are order of addition?
              Why is the liqueur allowed to rest in few months after mixing process?

hello, actually i have several reason to explain these questions. But these reasons are insufficient.
   -first question: prevent the precipitation of alcohol-soluble flavors from a strong solution by great dilution with water.
                       the flavors are attacked and oxidized by escape of air from solution.
   -second question: i think that have many orders of addition
   -third question: the liqueur is allowed to rest after mixing in order to give the ingredients time to blend thoroughly together. But i dont know it's mechanism or what reaction happened

Hello stonebill,

I believe that you are right when you mention oxidation. My guess is that the aromatic spirit is quite viscous. Probably, adding the alcohol thins the blend and makes all of the components easier to mix. I am guessing that the syrup is thick, and adding this to the above two mixtures keeps the blend thin, and allows better mixing. Water is usually a good medium to help the liquor thin and allow organisms to digest the liquor (if this is what is needed). The alcohol usually acts as an antiseptic.

What are your thoughts?
