I am trying to start my own site - with several forums. It isn't as easy as I thought it would be so I am curious, how was such as successful forum such as this one created?

Even with me trying to trade glassware, ring stands, and various other chemistry items no one seems interested.. Why is this?

I'd really like any comments, suggestions, etc on what I could do to make people join my site and start posting?

Are the goals of my site obvious? Is the layout good? is it easy to read? Do you think you'd sign up for any of the forums?

Any ideas and feedback would be  greatly appreciated!
