atomic weight and liberation of H2 gas?

Does the atomic weight of an element determine how much H2 gas is liberated in a metal - Hcl reaction??
For example would calcium liberate more H2 gas than magnesium??

Pound of calcium will liberate more H2 than ounce of magnesium, but pound of magnesium will liberate more than ounce of calcium.

Problem is, question doesn't make sense. There is no general answer here, as amount of hydrogen liberated depends on conditions that are not given.

My guess is that question asks if the atomic weight plays any role when reacting KNOWN mass of the metal with HCl. Even then question is ambiguous, as the answer depends not only on mass, but also on valence of the metal.

Note: for a given metal and given mass atomic mass is necessary to determine number of moles of metal, which is needed to calculate amount of hydrogen. So atomic mass plays a role here, but it is just one piece of the puzzle.

1 mole of calcium would let off the same amount of hydrogen as 1 mole of magnesium, however pound per pound, calcium would let off less because it takes more mass in grams, etc to make up one mole of calcium.

Why do they liberate the same amount of H2 gas?because they are both 2+ valencys?and why does Aluminium liberate even more H2 gas again?because Al valency is 3+ and Cl is -1?
