Balancing Equations
« on: November 23, 2009, 10:37:19 AM »
I can't figure this one out:

$$ Fe_2O_3 + CO --> Fe + CO_2 /$$

$$ Fe_2O_3 + CO --> 2Fe+CO_2 /$$

I can't find a way to balance the number of moles of oxygen.

Think this way: each CO molecule takes one oxygen atom from Fe2O3 - how many CO molecules will be needed?

I get it, it should be:

$$ Fe_2O_3+3CO-->2Fe+3CO_2 /$$
