S=S and P=P non-existence

S=S and P=P bonds are almost non-existent. On the other hand, S=O and P=O bonds are quite common. Rationalize these differences.

you could consider atom radii and electronegativities

kirogodevil, we need to see your attempt before we can help you in more detail. It is site policy  ;) FeLiXe's response is a big clue though, what is the polarity of the bonds in the first two compounds you mentioned compared to that of the second two? Does polarity in bonds increase or decrease the strength of those bonds?
