Arranging X-A-X bond angles
« on: November 24, 2009, 03:29:00 PM »
Arrange the following AXn species in order of increasing X-A-X bond angles.
a) NF3, CF4, BeF2, OF2, BF3
b) SCl2, CO2, BrF5, O3, CH4

I came up with the Lewis structure of each one but have no idea what to do next...

You have the Lewis structures. Good. Halfway there.  :)

From those structures, you can deduce their spatial geometry. Then, using the table in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_angle, find their angles.
