mercury amalgam help
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:30:30 AM »
hey all,
i'm trying to figure out how the reaction for HgCl2 + Al   would go. i know that it includes Al2O3 and the fact that it's also in water. beyond this i'm having trouble really seeing what's going on. i know that this first reaction forms a mixture of the two metals, and seperating this alloy and adding to h2o pulls the aluminum out of this mixture leaving elemental mercury.

any ideas to give for sake of coming up with a balanced equation for this reaction? any help is super appriciated.
