Hello again!
I just want to say I love this forum, it's very helpful and I'm glad I joined.
Now that I'm done kissing ass I have a question.
I've determined that 5-cholesten-3-one (C
27H
44O
1 has a degree of unsaturation of 6.
DOU = [(#carbons x2 +2 +halogens) - (#observed hydrogens + halogens)] / 2 = 6
Degree of unsaturation accounts for the number of rings + db/tp etc..
However, I see 4 rings and 1 double bond. So am i supposed to account for the double bond to oxygen in order to provide the correct DOU of 6 instead of 5 (4 rings + 1 c=c)?
Thanks!
Steve, (OrgoBorgo).
