Hi, I'm making a photochromic leuco dye, specifically azobenzene.

Can someone tell me the products of:

C₆H₅NO₂ + CH₃COOH + Fe C₁₂H₁₀N₂ + ?

This is nitrobenzene added to acetic acid...then reduced by iron fillings.

What else is formed other than azobenzene?

Oh, I think you can also use HCl + Fe or Zn in this situation for reduction of nitro compounds..

Does acetic acid reacts with iron? Write down a compound which is formed on the right side. Do you know the compound which is formed in the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen?

Obviously it produces hydrogen, which is the reducing agent. If it is just doing a typical acid-metal reaction, which it is, an iron acetate will form...
