Determining Units for Rate of Equation
« on: December 22, 2009, 10:44:31 AM »
Well. The question is to determine the units for the rate constant, k. Where r = k[A][ B]. Now let's explain what I've done so far..

A = Mol/L, or Mol x L^-1
B = Mol/L, or Mol x L^-1

k = r / A B (Just by rearranging the equation.)

So, by what I've got so far, the units for k would be:

r / (Mol x L^-1 [for A]) x (Mol x L^-1 [for B])

But the problem is, I don't know what the units for r is. According to the answer, the units for r is: Mol x L^-1 x s^-1. What exactly is the "s^-1"? I've got a huge textbook, which I've been searching through what this "S^-1" is, though I just can't find it.

So the question put nicely: Why is the units for r: Mol x L^-1 x s^-1.

If I need to explain it any further, just ask. I'll try my best.

There is no need to put everything in bold.
 OK From where 'B' has come?

r is rate of reaction whose units are (conc)/(time) i.e, molL-1s-1
's' is second- SI unit of time

Unfortunately, [ B] is a bold tag, so quite often it disappears and whole post gets bolded...

Ohh! Sorry I didn't think of that
