Methanol & MTBE extraction with Water
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:31:01 AM »
Hello to all
Does anybody has knowledge about the effect of pH or NaOH concentration in water on stripping of Methanol & MTBE from gases.

Thank you very much for the answer

Hello arie2044,

As a typical rule-of-thumb, pure methanol and MTBE should not have any effect on the pH or NaOH in water.

Is there some type of process or problem that you are seeing in which you are noticing changes in pH or caustic concentration?

Feel free to provide a little more information so that I can help.

Best wishes,

Eugene

Hi
Thank you for your answer. The problem is other. We pass gas that contains MTBE & Methanol & other impurities through NaOH solution 20% conc.
Is not it better to pass that gas through NaOH solution 10% or even lower (down to water ) concentration to remove MTBE & Methanol from the gas.

Thank you again
Arie

Hello arie2044,

From what I understand, you are trying to remove MTBE and Methanol with some other miscellaneous contaminants through a caustic soda scrub contact wash. Could you provide the general composition of the materials in your process flow? As an example, is this primarily a methane gas feed?

Thanks again,

Eugene

Hello Eugene
That time you are right.
I'm talking about C4 gas, but the problem is not the gas.

Thank you for your interest
