Molality question?
« on: February 15, 2010, 11:48:03 PM »
What mass (in grams) of a .500 m solution of sodium acetate CH3CO2Na, in water would you use to obtain .150 mol of sodium acetate?
I can't seem to think this one through. Not sure where to start. I've converted sodium acetate to mass but not sure if im heading in the right direction.

Obviously you have to dilute - that is, mix your 0.5 molal solution with pure water. Assume you want to prepare 1kg of solution - how many moles/what mass of acetate will it contain? How much water? Now, how much of the 0.5 molal solution contains the same amount of acetate?
