synthesis of ferrate ion

the chemicals i have used is NaOH powder, NaOCl FeCl3 to produce ferrate ion

1. Oxidation of ethanol (surrogate organic pollutant) by FeO4 2−:

4 FeO4 2−(aq) + C2H5OH(l) + 7 H2O(l) → 4 Fe(OH)3(s) + 2 CO2(g) + 8 OH−(aq)

2. Oxidation of H2SO4 (surrogate inorganic pollutant) by FeO4 2−:

2 FeO4 2−(aq) + 16 H+(aq) + 6 SO4 2−(aq) → 2 Fe3+(aq) + 3 S2O8 2−(aq) + 8 H2O(l)

i want to ask when adding ethanol to ferrate ion, there is no gas evoled, however, carbon dioxide is produced in the equation.
also , when adding conc sul into ferrate ion, there is gas evoled ,nut the equation does not show production of gas.

1. You probably used a large excess of ethanol. Then acetaldehyde or acetic acid is a main product.

2. Ferrate decomposes in water and oxygen is produced

If the solution were basic, most of CO2 combined with the OH-: CO2 + OH-  ::equil:: HCO3-

This is true for slightly basic solution
In this case
CO2 + 2OH-  ::equil:: CO32- + H2O
and a large excess of hydroxide anion remains
