Solubility of Benzene dicarboxylic acid
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:24:17 AM »
Benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid : poorly soluble in water

Benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid : insoluble in water

Benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid : slightly soluble in water

#Q1 I don't understand why Benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is more soluble in water than Benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid

#Q2 and also why Benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid is insoluble in water

Q1. I would think it is the other way round. Intermolecular vs. Intramolecular. I have not done chem in awhile, so pardon me. Someone else have to confirm this.

Q2. Think of the meta-directing and =O effects.
No matters what results are waiting for us, it's nothing but the DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!!!
