SOlvent/Liquid extraction
« on: February 28, 2010, 11:05:06 PM »
When I extract my compound using the liquid/solvent extraction method with water as aqueous layer and butanol as organic layer, I get three layers after shaking the separating funnel. There is a middle layer consisting of insoluble materials. I have done it numerous times and stil got the same thing. Isnt it suppose to be only 2 soluble layers? Where does the middle layer belong? Plz help.. im really stuck at this :(

Before I separate them, they look clear in the solution
