Redox reactions
« on: March 16, 2010, 02:57:34 PM »
Hi there, I need both the reduction and oxidation equations for the following reactions:

1. MnSO4(aq) + Br2(aq) + NaOH(diluted) + CuSO4(aq). I know that Mn gets oxidised to MnO2 and CuSO4 acts as a catalyst, so I guess it doesn't change.

2. MnSO4 + Na2CO3 + NaNO3 + dT(heated)
I know it is: Mn2+ + 2NO3- + 2CO3- <---> MnO42- + 2NO2- + 2CO2 but I have problems of making the reduction and oxidation equation.

3. H2SO3 + Lugol's Iodine (I5- or I2KI?). I know that sulfate is formed. I'm kinda stuck here, because of: I2KI  :rarrow: K+I3-

4. Na2SO3(aq) + S + dT. I know that S2O32- is formed.

Have a look in your data book, simply identify the starting and final oxidation state, and do half equations. they should be balanced in terms of atoms and charges
