Hi everyone,
For my knowledge there is considerable problem in determination of average VdW diameter for all halogens. The point is that in different compounds VdW diameter for a given halogen can vary significantly due to some “specific interaction” or “specific bond” between halogens. So the usual value found in the literature is an upper limit for VdW diameter.
Can anyone explain me what does it mean “specific interaction”, especially for halogen-halogen contact?
