I'm in class twelve and have to do a project, and I thought of synthesizing luminol. I found a vague procedure, but it's, well, vague. For instance, it rattles on about thermometer adapters and neoprene adapters and vacuum outlets, and I haven't the first clue about what to do.

What I want to know is, what is the easiest way to carry out the reaction: what quantities of the reagents, what glassware and other apparatus will I need? And how much luminol and NaOH are required for the luminescence reaction?

Hydrazine is a necessary component in the synthesis of luminol, it is very toxic and dangerous stuff, no company will ever sell it to an individual, it's traffic and use is highly regulated.

Are you looking to make something that would be challenging to make or just want to try your hand at some cool chemistry?

The school places the orders for the reagents and stuff.  I'm looking to do something which isn't like what other people would do (such as test-the-percentage-of-caffeine-in-instant-coffee or prepare-aspirin.) and besides, I rather have a thing for luminol...
