about polarimeter

is it known that polarimeter can show the existence of optical isomers(ie: glucose, obviously), but how is it works?
why the polarized light will rotate in different angles after passing through the chemicals?

do u mean the explaination on page 123?
i think that simpilify the principle too much..
or do u mean on other pages?
