Consider the reaction
2I(aq) + H2O2(aq) + 2H+(aq)
I2(aq) + 2H2O(l)
In the presence of S2O32–(aq) and starch solution, the time taken for a blue colour to form was observed at various reactant concentrations.
What is the correct order with respect to I– and H2O2?
here is the info summarized
three reactions were carried out, the concentration of H+ kept constant in all of them,
In reaction 1: when the concentration of I- was doubled ( while everything else maintained constant) the rate of reaction went from 50 seconds to 25 seconds, HALVED
From reaction 2 and 3, the concentration of I- was doubled and the concentration of H
2O
2 halved, the rate went from 50s to 100s,
what I'm stuck on is reaction 1, why is it possible that the rate will decrease, shouldnt it increase of conc is increased?
Thankyou!
