if there any body who worked in oil field

how can we remove sulfate from injection water (water flooding)?
is there any other method than filtration?

Hello aeacfm,

Yes, I work in the oilfield. Sorry ... I've been busy  ;)

One of many ways to remove sulphate from injection waters is to add Calcium chloride. This is highly dependent on pH, competing ions, temperature, etc.

I hope this helps,

Eugene

thank u sir
u mean precipitation of SO4-- as calcium sulfate ??
but this very expensive for treatment in larger water flood plants

Hello aeacfm,

Yes, your right, it does have a moderate expense, and it has a fast reaction time (minutes). If you have a significant amount of time (a few months), then you could perform biological treatments which are less expensive, and at the cost of time.

I guess expensive is a relative term. Expensive in funds, or expensive in time.

Best wishes,

Eugene

aeacfm,

There is a general rule-of-thumb, when you want the reaction fast, treatment is more expensive. When you have lots of time (slow reaction rate) the treatment costs less.

Is there some other form of treatment that you would consider (other than a precipitation treatment)?

Sincerely,

Eugene
