Chemical equation for a precipitate?
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:50:46 PM »
"What amount of NaI is needed to precipitate 3 g of Pb(NO3)2? What weight of PbI2 is formed?"

I can do the stoichiometry, I just can't figure out an equation. Where did the sodium go and what's my course of lead and nitrate?

NaI + ?  :rarrow: Pb(NO3)2 (s) + PbI2

I meant to say what's my SOURCE of lead and nitrate ions.

Are you sure you are not asked to precipitate all the lead from the lead nitrate solution containing 3 g of the salt?
