Ions, how I know wether it's positive or negative

Basically the title, so I know bohf's electron model or w/e it's called, anyways I need some help I can't figure out if all things are positive or negative as a ion, etc Mg H He, well basically everything in the periodic table.

If it's a metal (Tin, Aluminum, Sodium) it is positive. Gases and liquids (except hydrogen, which is positive) are negative. To make it is easier, left side and middle of periodic table is positive and most of the right side is negative. There are exceptions of course, but this is a good general rule. Hope this helps.

If you know the concepts such as the octet rule and valence electrons, you could easily predict whether an ion is positive or negative.
