organic chem lab - wash technique

what's the purpose of performing 2 or 3 washes of 10mL each instead of one wash of 20 or 30mL?

I assume you are talking about solvent extraction? Look up partition co-efficients
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

Rather than Wash, let dry.
