alkene monitoring with TLC
« on: November 20, 2010, 11:57:34 AM »
hi
I have heard that it is impossible to monitor alkenes with TLC, but I don't know what the reason is, and also is there any other compound like alkene?
thanks for your help

Unless they are volatile, for example ethylene, they are perfectly detectable by TLC. Use a permanganate spray, or iodine, or sulphuric acid.
