trimethylammonium formation
« on: November 25, 2010, 08:11:58 PM »
Hi,

I am trying to make a trimethylpropylammonium that attached to one of the nitrogen atom on 1,4,7-triazacyclononane(TACN)(with Boc on the other 2 nitrogen atoms) from the corresponding molecule with propylamine on TACN.

I am not sure what solvent and base should I use to react the compound with MeI to avoid final product and base come together at the same phase.

I am thinking to use Na2CO3 in methanol/ethanol absolute.

I am not sure whether NaI formed is soluble in methanol but i think it is insoluble in ethanol absolute.

Any idea for this?

Thanks
