Need help with writing out two reactions
« on: November 29, 2010, 11:22:30 PM »
In lab we preformed a slew of qualitative tests to figure out unknown salts. I have figured out all the reactions except for two.

The first one is the second step in determining which halide was present. The salt is NaBr. The reaction is as follows..

NaBr + H2SO4 + NaOCl  I tried to figure it out, but I just couldn't wrap my head around it...

and then the second reaction is from a flame test to determine which Group 1 cations are present. The salt is Na3PO4.

I am not to sure of the products of this decomposition.

I hope someone will be able to help me. Thank you.

Br- + H3O+ + OCl- = Cl- +  + Br2 + H2O (unbalanced)

Flame test is a physical process
