I have obtained this ester-like structure and now i have to react it with NaOH and HCl to form something resembling a carboxylic acid.

Can someone explain the step-wise mechanism that would lead to the product shown in the picture

This question is really basic chemistry. My concern would be "what happens to the epoxide?"
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

What would result if heat were added to the product shown in the picture ?

I'm guessing the epoxide would get broken down and CO2 released

but what would the mechanism look like step-wise??
