A chemical pollutant in the world?
« on: December 16, 2010, 05:21:58 PM »
Hey guys, this is nothing related too much with chemistry but I thought I'd ask for a chemical someone may know about.

I'm doing a project with brine shrimp (sea monkey) and we're supposed to find a chemical pollutant in the world to test on.( but it has to be within the limits that my high school can make, so nothing like mercury or other dangerous stuff)

The main purpose is to determine the effects of a pollutant on a population ( the population being the brine shrimps)

But I'm having trouble finding a pollutant to use. I can't do sulfuric acid because too many others are using it. So any ideas on a chemical pollutant that I can use?

Please keep in mind that my teacher will be making the chemical for me so it has to be safe enough to use in a school. Oh, and oil isn't any good because I can't different concentration of oils since oil does not mix very well.

What about surfactants/dispersants as used recently in huge volumes in the Gulf of Mexico?
