Chlorine and Methane reaction
« on: December 17, 2010, 01:42:06 PM »
Hi everyone,                                         17 December 2010

I have searched on the net for a detailed diagram, with curly arrows, for the electron exchange for all the reactions of methane and chlorine. I understand the formation of DI, TRI, Tetra and chloromethane. I also understand all the free chlorine and CH3 radicals involved in the reactions. However, i cannot find any diagram which shows the curly half arrows for all the stages of the reaction. The web site chemguide shows the free radicals but no arrows on which electron moves where.

Will be extremely grateful to any one who can draw the diagrams. Got this question wrong in a recent test and need the correct answer.

Thanks

manu

@Manupatel

you can also look at free radical bromination reaction, works almost the same way. search for free radical halogenation
