Chlorination of gallate?
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:46:32 AM »
Hello All,

First of all; apologizes if this topic has been around before. Im a totally new member here and decided to ask you being a bit lost with the issue.

My question is about dodecyl gallate molecule and attaching a chlorine or two chlorines in the end of the long carbon chain. Is this generally possible to do, or, if there is a company that is selling this molecule - where does it exist?

Im personally a radiochemist and a bit far away from organic chemistry; all help is thankfully appreciated.

Well, the compound doesn't exist in the literature, so defianately isn't commercially available. The simplest disconnection looks like an esterification between the carboxylic acid and 12-chloro-1-dodecanol

Thanks a lot for prompt suggestion! What do you think; is this esterification feasible to perform? Or a difficult task?
