Hi!
Somebody please tell me some methods to recognize it if N2 is produced in reactions of metals and HNO3.
Thank you in advance!
Some rough ideas, never tried:
Catch the evolving gases in a gas syringe, let enter enough O
2 to oxidize NO to NO
2, dissolve the brown NO
2 in distilled water, if there is N
2 present it will remain for the most undissolved.
Or measure the density of the gaseous mixture with a gas syringe and compare it to table values?
Gas chromatography?
